coneflower or California rudbeckia, is a tall (up to 6 ft), showy wildflower native to moist meadows and streambanks in the Sierra Nevada and other mountainous regions of California. A perennial member of the sunflower family, it thrives in rich, seasonally moist soils and adds a bold, architectural element to native gardens, rain gardens, and wildlife-friendly landscapes. Known for its large, bright yellow ray flowers and prominent greenish-brown central cones, this plant is a magnet for native bees and butterflies.
