Helianthus 'Autumn Gold' Sunflower-Willowleaf

What sets 'Autumn Gold' apart from typical sunflowers is its manageable size and refined habit. Mature clumps typically reach 18 to 24 inches in both height and width, forming dense, tidy mounds that maintain their structure without the flopping or staking often required of taller sunflower varieties. Throughout spring and summer, narrow, dark emerald-green leaves are densely arranged along upright stems, creating fine texture and an attractive shrubby appearance in the border. This interesting willow like foliage provides excellent contrast to broader-leaved perennials long before the bloom period begins. When autumn arrives, 'Autumn Gold' becomes absolutely covered in a dense carpet of bright golden-yellow flowers, each bloom reaching approximately two inches in diameter with characteristic dark brown center cones. The profuse flowering creates a stunning sea of color that persists until a hard frost, making this cultivar an invaluable asset for extending the garden season. Beyond its ornamental value, 'Autumn Gold' offers tremendous ecological benefits.
