from Cortez, CO and various Waltham Butternuts (originally grown by Bob Young of Waltham, Massachusetts in 1970). Fruits display their diversity of genetics with a variability in shape--mainly cylindrical of various statures but also a few round fruits--and color--mostly various shades of tan-orange but also some green patterning. Great for low water & Southwestern gardens. Planting Instructions: Start Butternut Squash seeds indoors 3 weeks before last frost and transplant after all danger of frost has passed. Or seed outdoors after frost if your growing season is at least 100 days long. Plant 2-3" deep in mounds of well-draining soil. Mounds should be at least 5 feet apart. Vines are large and sprawling. Seed Saving Instructions : Select as many of your tastiest, fully mature fruits as possible for seed saving. Cut open squash and lay seeds out to dry on a screen or cloth. You may rinse them in a strainer if needed. Store seeds in a paper or mesh bag in a cool, dark and dry location. Limited Stock: Approx 20 Butternut Squash seeds per packet
