Heuchera Northern Exposure™ 'Purple'- Coral Bells

crown, and because the color holds so well through summer heat, it reads as a much longer season of interest than most purple-leaved coral bells manage. From late spring into fall, wiry stems rise 20 to 25 inches above the foliage carrying airy sprays of small pink bell-shaped flowers that draw hummingbirds and other pollinators, adding a second layer of color without ever hiding the leaves. This is an easy, adaptable perennial for USDA zones 3 through 9, equally at home in full sun with consistent moisture or in the part-to-full shade where most gardeners plant their coral bells. Give it moderately well-drained, organic soil and average water, and set the crown at soil level rather than burying it, since Heuchera crowns are prone to rot if planted too deep. Northern Exposure™ Purple is notably rust-resistant and shrugs off summer heat and humidity better than many older Heuchera varieties. Use it in mass plantings, as a border or edging plant, in mixed containers, or as a color accent among green-leaved companions like hosta, astilbe, and ferns.
