How & when to plant Direct sow 2–4 weeks before the last spring frost and again in late summer for a fall crop. Sow seeds 1/4 inch deep, thinning to 6–8 inches apart for full heads or leave denser for baby leaves. Prefers full sun to part shade and cool weather; grows well in USDA zones 4–9. Harvest Baby leaves are ready in about 21 days and full leaves in 40 days. Snip outer leaves 1 inch above the crown and the plant will regrow for several more cuttings.
